GURUGRAM: NHAI's four-lane highway project, connecting Pataudi and Rewari, has been put on fast-track. NHAI has already expressed intent to acquire land in Rewari and Gurugram districts. The highways authority is hopeful that by July, they will start work on the 45km project. Officials have said since the highway will run parallel to NH-8, it will take significant traffic load off the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and reduce pollution levels. The four-lane highway will start from Dwarka Expressway in Sector 88A and 88B. "This highway will be beneficial for residents of new sectors, as they won't have to travel across the city to reach Pataudi or Manesar. They can simply take this highway. Moreover, commuters travelling to Rewari will use this highway instead of NH-8," said a senior NHAI official. This highway will be without any traffic signals, halving travel time from Gurugram to Rewari from 1 hour and 20 minutes to 40 minutes. For the work to proceed, NHAI needs 630 hectares of land in Gurugram and 139 hectares in Rewari. "We have expressed intent to acquire the land in both districts. Acquisition now lies in the hands of respective district revenue officers (DRO), who, on February 5, issued a 21-day notice for the public to raise objections. Afterwards, we'll issue a notification to the central government about this project, who will have 45 days to settle any outstanding issue," the official added. The estimated budget of the highway is Rs 1,000 crore. "We're confident of completing the highway within two years of getting the land for the entire project handed over. Once land acquisition is over, tenders will be issued, which will take around two months," he added. As of now, a detailed project report (DPR) is being prepared.NHAI will come up with a toll plaza right before Pataudi. "The four-lane highway will have a toll plaza and all lanes will be fast-tag equipped," he added. The highway will also intersect KMP Expressway, so anyone travelling on KMP can take the Pataudi-Rewari highway. The highway will also be linked to Rewari-Narnaul expressway. "We're also building this 50km-long expressway, and will link Pataudi-Rewari highway to it, allowing commuters from Gurugram to travel to Narnaul without any hindrance," he said.
