There was some action, but it seems that has not deterred the vendors,” said Sumit Bhatia, RWA president of Sushant Lok 1. “There are 10 points that we identified today in Sushant Lok 1. The presence of vendors means that there is a lot of unregulated movement of people in and out of the colony.” Sushant Lok 1 has 6,000 houses in five blocks.Residents told TOI they were not against these vendors. On Saturday afternoon, the corporation sent a team to remove them.“The drive was conducted in afternoon,” said an official from the enforcement wing of MCG. We have orders from the senior rung of MCG against unauthorised vendors.

GURUGRAM: The enforcement wing of MCG removed unauthorised food vendors in Sushant Lok 1 on Saturday, acting on a written complaint by the local RWA that these unregistered hawkers often lead to traffic jams and pose security threats. The RWA, which was recently voted to power after a year, had recently sent notices to vendors — close to 45 in the 650-acre township —and asked them to get registered. But few had volunteered for it. On Saturday afternoon, the corporation sent a team to remove them.“The drive was conducted in afternoon,” said an official from the enforcement wing of MCG. “We are going to conduct more such drives in the future. We have orders from the senior rung of MCG against unauthorised vendors. We have opened a helpline number through which the RWA and local residents can call and we will respond. I had a personal experience of being harassed by these vendors. I had recently visited this area and the vendors had asked me not to park my car near the footpath because they had erected a stall there. If this is how they deal with a government official, I wonder what happens with the common people,” he added.Officials said Saturday’s drive was part of the wider demolition campaign that MCG had started recently. “There are 10 points that we identified today in Sushant Lok 1. The A Block and C Block in particular face a lot of encroachment. We have served them notices but we will take action if these warnings aren’t adhered to,” an official said.Residents said though the vendors had been removed, they returned towards the latter part of the day. “They returned within hours of the drive. There was some action, but it seems that has not deterred the vendors,” said Sumit Bhatia, RWA president of Sushant Lok 1. “Almost five thefts have taken place in the area in the past 30 days and in each case, hefty amounts were stolen. The presence of vendors means that there is a lot of unregulated movement of people in and out of the colony.” Sushant Lok 1 has 6,000 houses in five blocks.Residents told TOI they were not against these vendors. “There are around 45 – 50 vendors here. We don’t want all of them to be removed. It’s just we want some regulations in place,” said Neelu Sharma, a resident.
