76 colleges to be affiliated with Gurugram University

GURUGRAM: At least 76 government and government-financed colleges in Gurugram and Nuh (Mewat) will come under the Gurugram University ( GU ). Sources said that the transfer process might take a full year.Colleges are waiting to get a notification regarding the transfer. Pooja Khullar, the principal of Dronacharya College said, “All our data has to be transferred to the newly-established university. College students and teachers also don’t need to go far to get their work done.”The colleges include those offering BEd courses such as RLS College of Education (Sidarwali) and Teerthanker KRD College in Jatauli Hailey Mandi. This may take some time.” Some college authorities, however, said that the process would be smooth.

The Haryana governor has initiated the transfer process and the actual paper work will start from the coming week and is expected to go on till August.These colleges which will be affiliated with GU are currently under Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak.Markanday Ahuja, the GU vice-chancellor said, “Principals of colleges in the city had to run all the way to Rohtak over small issues or sanctions. Now, they can approach GU. College students and teachers also don’t need to go far to get their work done.”The colleges include those offering BEd courses such as RLS College of Education (Sidarwali) and Teerthanker KRD College in Jatauli Hailey Mandi. Vijay Adhlakha, the principal of the Rithoj Government College said, “I’m not ruling out that issues might arise but I expect it to be a smooth process.”All students currently studying in the first, second and third year batches will remain registered with MDU and only those seeking admission in the 2019-2020 session and beyond will be registered with GU.“Only students seeking new admissions will be registered with GU. Records of all such students will have to be submitted here. College teachers, if they have any issue, can approach the state higher education department as they will remain its employees,” said Ahuja.After the notification is sent to colleges, they will have to apply for affiliation with GU within the next five to 15 days. “We will inspect the colleges before going ahead with the process of giving affiliation,” added Ahuja.GU runs out of the campus of Rao Tularam College of Science and Commerce in Sector 51. But the university’s own campus is expected to be set up in Sector 85 by 2021.
