KARNAL: Two people were killed, while two others were injured in an oil tanker blast at Kutana chowk of Gharaunda in Karnal district on Friday. The incident occurred when a mechanic was repairing the tanker. The tanker was empty. They were repairing the tanker with the welding work of an oil tanker. Deputy superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramdutt said that the deceased has been identified as Surjeet the shop owner (42) and his son Sonu (27), a resident of Kutana village, while Swaran Singh , a resident of Rajapur and Mittu, resident of Balapabana were injured.The accident took place around 1.30 pm. While they were repairing a fire broke out in shop due to a leakage from the tanker. Noticing the fire, shop owners from the neighbourhood rushed to save those present in the shop. They also informed the police and fire brigade. On receiving the complaint, DSP Ramdutt and Gauronda police station in-charge, Sandeep Kumar reached the spot. The injured were immideatelyrushed to the civil hospital. While the shop owner Surjeet and his son died on the spot, the condition of two others present at the shop was said to be critical.The bodies of the two were sent for the post-mortem, said Sandeep Kumar, SHO, Gharaunda.
