SIT, peace committee to look into shrines related dispute in Kaithal

KAITHAL: The district administration has instructed social organisations and panchayats of several villages to form a peace committee to resolve the shrines-related dispute of two communities that clashed at village Badsui in Kaithal on Friday. They are undergoing treatments at Civil Hospital in Kaithal and Rajendra Hospital in Patiala. Their condition is said to be out of danger.Rajinder Singh, village Badsui panch, said, “The clash took place over the division of land between two shrines managed separately by the committees of both the communities. On Saturday, the postmortem of the deceased Shamsher has been conducted after which he was cremated.

KAITHAL: The district administration has instructed social organisations and panchayats of several villages to form a peace committee to resolve the shrines-related dispute of two communities that clashed at village Badsui in Kaithal on Friday. The police said the two groups clashed because of an ongoing dispute over the land shared by two shrines and “local electoral politics”.According to sources, Kaithal superintendent of police (SP), Waseem Akram, visited Cheeka police station and a special investigation team ( SIT ), consisting of 10 police officials, has been formed to investigate the matter under the leadership of station house officer (SHO) of Cheeka, inspector Umed Singh. Also, the SP invited prominent persons of the area to form a peace committee and resolve the ongoing dispute.The sources disclosed that the peace committee has nearly 20 members, including Haryana State Sugar Federation chairman Harpal Singh Cheeka.On Friday, Shamsher Singh, 50, a resident of village Badsui, was killed in the clash while nearly 15 belonging to both the communities, were injured. They are undergoing treatments at Civil Hospital in Kaithal and Rajendra Hospital in Patiala. Their condition is said to be out of danger.Rajinder Singh, village Badsui panch, said, “The clash took place over the division of land between two shrines managed separately by the committees of both the communities. The same issue had cropped up nearly one and a half years ago, but it was not resolved properly.” Kurukshetra MP Raj Kumar Saini had approved Rs 5 lakh from his MP-LAD funds to build a road through the village, which was misused by the villagers for the construction of the wall to separate the two shrines.On Saturday, MP Saini, who was in Ambala for his party meeting, told TOI, “I had approved the funds for construction of road, but I am not aware how the funds were utilised. I offer condolences to the family members of the deceased person who has lost his life in the clash.”SP Akram told TOI, “The situation is under control and the administration had stopped the construction activity on the land concerned. On Saturday, the postmortem of the deceased Shamsher has been conducted after which he was cremated. We have formed a peace committee and further action according to law is being taken against the accused involved in this case. Those arrested will be presented before the court on Sunday.”On Friday, the Kaithal Police registered a case a case against a main perpetuator, former sarpanch Om Prakash, and others under various sections 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means), and 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code
