Two women killed in mud collapse in Jind village

JIND: On Sunday, two women were killed and seven others seriously injured after mud fell on them. On the same day another incident took place in the village when a gas cylinder blew up in a house. They belonged to the same family from the village. He said that a supervisor had been deputed on the behalf of village panchayat to look after the work but he was not at the spot when it happened. Puneet (16) and Amit (16) were injured and taken to the civil hospital for treatment.

JIND: On Sunday, two women were killed and seven others seriously injured after mud fell on them. They were digging for a project under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme in Kehra Khemawati village close to Safidon town of Jind district The local administration and police officials, including deputy commissioner Aditya Dahiya, reached the spot and started rescue operation. The injured were shifted to Khanpur PGI Gohana. The deceased has been identified as 65-year-old Chameli Devi and 30-year-old Nisha Devi. They belonged to the same family from the village. Nisha is survived by two children aged two and four years.Safidon sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Mandeep Kumar said, "We got message that few women, who were working as labourers under the MGNREGA scheme, met with an accident and sson reached the sccident site.""The administration has started a departmental inquiry into the matter and a case will be lodged if anyone is found of negligence," the SDM added.Kehra Khemawati panchayat member Manohar Lal said that around 20 women were engaged in digging work for proposed power house for last 20 days. He said that a supervisor had been deputed on the behalf of village panchayat to look after the work but he was not at the spot when it happened. After the incident it took several minutes to rescue the women.Lal said that the deceased belong to his own family, one was his aunty and the other sister-in-law. They were working as labourer to support their families. A pall of gloom descended on the family after their sudden death.When contacted, Safidon SHO Ajit Singh said that according to the statement of victims, they had started investigation under section 174 (police to inquire and report) of the CrPC. He added that police had not received any complaint in the matter so far.Local independent MLA Jasbir Deshwal said that he had visited the incident spot and every possible help would be extended to the victims' families after election as the model code of conduct was in force at present.
