Gurgaon: Police on Monday arrested three more accused in connection with the attack on a Muslim family in Bhoop Singh Nagar colony of Bhondsi on Holi, ostensibly following a dispute over a cricket match. With this, the number of accused who have been arrested by police went up to five. More arrests are likely in the coming days.Of the three arrested on Monday, two have police records, with one of them having been to jail twice and currently out on bail. All five arrested are from Nayagaon , a village neighbouring Bhondsi. The other three have no past police records. Those arrested on Monday were identified as Amit (28), Dharmendra alias Bittu (35) and Sunil 42).Police had earlier arrested Mahesh (25) on March 22 and Dhirender alias Dhire (30) — identified as the mastermind behind the attack — on Sunday night.During initial interrogation, it was revealed that Sunil has four different cases registered against him between 2009 and 2017 at Bhondsi and DLF 1 police stations for which he has been to jail twice — in 2014 and 2016 — and was released on bail on both occasions. The first case against Sunil was registered in 2009 at DLF 1 police station, under Section 61-1-14 of the Excise Act, for carrying illegal liquor. The second case was registered in 2011 under Section 174A (proclaimed offender) of IPC at Bhondsi police station. The third case against him was registered in 2016 under Section 420 (cheating) at Bhondsi police station, with the fourth in 2017 under Sections 188 (disobedience to order by public servant) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).Dharmendra alias Bittu too has a case registered against him at Bhondsi police station in 2015 under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC.Police said neither of the three arrested on Monday have regular jobs. Sunil dug borewells illegally, while the rest depended mainly on agricultural income. “Five people have been arrested so far. We’re tracking the rest,” said DCP (south) Himanshu Garg, adding the complainants had not shared any names, and that they had identified the accused from video footage and other sources.Police spokesperson Subash Boken said their primary focus is to identify the accused, verify their roles and arrest them. “So far, we’ve arrested five, and expect to arrest more soon,” Boken said, adding that a sequence of events of that fateful day can only be prepared after all accused are arrested and their statements recorded. On March 21, a group of 12 men had attacked the two-storey house of Mohammad Dilshad (32) after a dispute over a cricket match. Dilshad’s police complaint states the attackers began pelting stones at the house and vandalising the family’s motorbikes. When they broke into the house, the men sent the women and children to the second-floor terrace. From there, one of the women, Danishta (21), shot three videos, one of which went viral on social media. The incident has now turned into a political slugfest. Congress president Rahul Gandhi, Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and several other political leaders have already tweeted about it. On Monday, Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar and Yogendra Yadav of Swaraj Abhiyan visited the family. Yogendra Yadav blamed the ruling BJP for creating the atmosphere that led to the incident, and offered legal help. “The accused fled not because of fear of police, but out of fear of being recorded on camera. This speaks volumes about the state of affairs,” said Yadav.Haryana Congress chief Ashok Tanwar also blamed the state government and alleged that a section of society is living in fear. “There is no fear of police and people are taking law into their hands to attack the vulnerable,” he said.
