Gurgaon: Five more accused have been arrested in connection with the March 21 mob attack on a Muslim family in Bhondsi’s Bhoop Singh Nagar. With this, all 10 men accused of direct involvement in the attack have been nabbed, said police.The five men arrested have been identified as Anil (33), Gaurav (23), Pradeep (28), Lalit (27) and Rohit (26). While the first accused, Mahesh (25), was arrested on Friday, Dhirender alias Dhire (30), the ‘mastermind’, was arrested on Sunday. Three more accused— Amit (28), Dharmendra alias Bittu (35) and Sunil (42) — were caught on Monday.All the arrested people are residents of Nayagaon. None of them has a regular job.On Holi, a mob of 12 had allegedly attacked the two-storey house of Mohammad Dilshad (32), in which his uncle Mohammad Sajid lived with wife and six children, after a dispute over a cricket match. The police complaint filed by Dilshad stated that the youths pelted stones at the house and vandalised motorbikes. When the group entered the building, the men in the family sent the women and children to the terrace. From there, one of the women, Danishta (21), shot three videos of the men attacking the family with sticks, a spear and hockey sticks, one of which went viral on social media.An FIR was registered the same night at Bhondsi police station against unknown attackers, under Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (unlawful assembly), 452 (trespassing), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC.One person, who was allegedly injured in the attack by the Muslim family, is missing. The statement of the person is crucial as villagers of Nayagaon have been demanding a cross-FIR against the family. They have alleged that one of the village youths was first attacked by a member of the family and that had led to the retaliation. The villagers will hold a mahapanchayat on Wednesday to push the demand for a counter-FIR.“If the person who was injured in the attack had been admitted to some hospital instead of running away, it would have prevented the matter from escalating to what it has become today,” a senior police officer said, adding that though they were looking for the person, he is not among the accused.According to police, the 10 people who have been arrested were directly involved while the others seen in the video were onlookers. “After identifying the accused through videos and other sources and verifying their roles, police has arrested all of them. During interrogation, if a few more names come up they will be arrested as well,” Gurgaon police spokesperson Subhash Boken said.Three of those arrested have a previous criminal record — Dharmendra, Sunil and Anil.Anil was booked in 2008 for an accident under Sections 279 (rash or negligent driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 338 (causing grievous hurt) of IPC at Badshapur police station. He was declared proclaimed offender by a Gurgaon court in 2017 for continued absence from hearing. The second case against him was registered under Section 174-A (declared as proclaimed offender by court). The police said with the new arrests, they will prepare the sequence of events to get a clear picture of the incident.
