GURUGRAM: Union minister of state for social justice and empowerment, Krishan Pal Gurjar, might be confident of getting the BJP ticket from Faridabad , but local party members are unhappy with the sitting MP. And this has become a cause of concern for the party, which is likely to announce him as their candidate for the forthcoming Lok Sabha election anytime soon.Gurjar (61) came into the limelight in his debut Lok Sabha election in 2014, when he defeated four-time Congress MP, Avtar Singh Bhadana by 4.6-lakh votes from Faridabad constituency. But during the recent ‘Vijay Sankalp Yatra’, in the presence of the party’s Haryana in-charge Kalraj Misra, several party workers raised slogans against Gurjar, claiming they support Prime Minister Narendra Modi but are against the incumbent. That has now escalated, with posters coming up in different parts of the city, which repeat the claim that residents of Faridabad have no grudges with Modi but they will teach a lesson to Gurjar. Party sources said Gurjar faces criticism from within the party due to undue favour he had showered on a particular community and region during the past five years. His rivals have also been claiming his association with the rampant illegal mining in the region.Though Gurjar couldn’t be contacted for his reaction to this development, a senior party leader, pleading anonymity, said though a few supporters have been protesting the MP’s nomination, they will support Modi and BJP. “There are issues with all political leaders. There are some supporters and some critics,” he said.Pleading anonymity, a Congress member who is likely to get the ticket for the constituency from his party, said Gurjar has not done much developmental work for the people of Faridabad. “Instead, development has come to a standstill, while crime is on the rise,” he said.
