Gurgaon: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) on Friday started work on a multi-speciality hospital under public-private partnership that was proposed in an executive committee meeting held in April last year. The hospital will come up in Sector 67 and will be spread over an area of around 7.6 acres. The GMDA had sought a request for proposal (RFP) for the project last week, and is now seeking public suggestions for it.The latest development comes after the proposal was tabled to the Committee of Secretaries on Infrastructure, which suggested that the GMDA should seek advice on the project from organisations that have expertise in the field. According to officials with knowledge of the project, the key aim is to develop a hospital with state-of-the-art medical facilities at affordable prices.“While Gurgaon has several leading private hospitals, affordability is a major concern for citizens. We plan to develop a hospital with the facilities of a private hospital, but at affordable prices,” said a senior GMDA official. The project details can be accessed on GMDA’s website and suggestions can be emailed to the authority. According to the official, the cost of Out Patient Department (OPD) will be set at Rs 150, Rs 3000 for Internal Patient Department (IPD) and Rs 8000 for Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with an annual escalation of 5% each. “It will be the first-of-its-kind project in not just Gurgaon, but the whole country,” said the official. The upcoming hospital will also have a burns ward, a cochlear laboratory and a dialysis centre. It will also have 500 beds, of which 200 will be set up in the first phase and the rest will be set up in the second phase, according to the official. The total cost of the project is expected to be around Rs 250 crore, of which GMDA will make an equity investment of Rs 50 crores and provide the land. Meanwhile, the rest of the investment will have to be brought in by a private investor. The project is expected to be completed by 2021.
