Gurgaon: A woman and her lover were sentenced to life imprisonment by a city court on Saturday for their alleged involvement in her husband’s murder in June 2015. The court has also imposed a penalty of Rs 50,000 on each of them.Police said Vinita (32), who had got married in 2004, met Parvinder (21) through a social networking site in early 2015 and soon, they got into a relationship. Vinita’s husband Lalit Kumar (35) came to know about their relationship while checking her phone one day. He began questioning Vinita and that prompted her to plan the murder, the police said.Lalit, alias Bittu, a farmer and a political worker in Mehchana village, was found murdered in his house on June 13, 2015. His mother had first spotted the body.According to the police, Vinita had told Parvinder that Lalit, who had a visual impairment, had acquired Rs 1 crore after the sale of an ancestral property.Parvinder was unemployed at that time and his younger brother Kalu Karvinder (20) had just finished school. The police said Parvinder had an eye on the money.Later, they convinced Vinita’s sister Babita (42) to be a part of the murder plan by offering her money.Parvinder had told the police that as per their plan, on the day of the murder, Vinita had gone to her sister’s place in Delhi, along with her two children. Parvinder went to Lalit’s house when he was alone and slit his throat.Vinita and Parvinder, who is from Dhaniya in Jhajjar district, were arrested on June 16, 2015.Later, they were released on bail. “Both were arrested after the court order on Saturday and sent to jail,” said spokesperson, Gurgaon police, Subhash Boken.Initially, Babita and Kalu were also arrested and made accused in the case. But no evidence was found against them and their names were dropped at the time of filing chargesheet.The police said that technical evidence and Vinita’s call details had helped them arrest the accused.
