AMBALA: The Baldev Nagar police on the complaint of a police official have registered a case under section 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 61 of the Punjab Excise Act after recovering 171 boxes of illicit liquor containing 780 bottles of beer and 1,296 bottles of whiskey of different brands from a Himachal Pradesh registered truck in the wee hours on Sunday.The police have arrested the accused truck driver identified as Avtar Singh, resident of Kiratpur village, Panchkula district . The accused driver was presented in the district court on Sunday after which the court sent him to police remand for two days.As per the First Information Report, FIR, "The police team was patrolling near Royal Palace when they received information that a truck bearing HP12A8237 number is transporting liquor without any permit from Punjab to Ambala Cantonment. Acting on the information, a check post was set up in front of Royal Palace on National Highway 44.On seeing the vehicle, police signaled the driver to stop. Upon checking, police recovered 11 boxes of Thunderbolt beer, 54 boxes of Tuborg beer, 5 boxes of All Seasons whiskey, 34 boxes of Royal Stag whiskey, 40 boxes of Imperial Blue whiskey, 5 boxes of Imperial Blue whiskey (half), 19 boxes of Original Dowells whiskey (half), and 5 boxes of McDowells whiskey (quarter), and some other bottles."Sub-inspector, Suresh said, investigation officer on this case, said, "On Sunday, the accused driver was presented before the court which has sent him to two-day police remand. Further investigations are being done in the case. More details on this case will come out once probe is done."
