Gurgaon: Haryana Deputy CM and NDA ally Dushyant Chautala has said he will resign from his post in the Manohar Lal Khattar government if he doesn’t manage to secure MSP for the farmers. Chautala has vowed to secure MSP for the farmers.

Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) leader Dushyant Chautala has said, “Our party`s national president already made it clear that MSP must be assured to farmers. The written proposals given by the central government yesterday included MSPs. I`ll work to secure MSP to farmers as long as I`m the Deputy CM. I will resign when I`m unable.” Dushyant Chautala on Thursday hoped that the farmers will call off their agitation now that the Centre has offered to give written assurances on MSP and their other demands.

However, the farmers have rejected the government proposal for written assurance on MSP and mandi system and have continued with the demand of rollback of the farm reform laws. Chautala said he is “quite hopeful” that the farmers protesting over the new farm laws will understand that when the Centre is giving written assurances, it “a victory for their struggle”.

Dushyant Chautala, who faces pressure from the opposition and some Haryana farmers to withdraw from the BJP-led government in the state, reiterated that he will resign if the minimum support price (MSP) system is threatened. However, farmer unions, particularly in Punjab and Haryana, have said that the new laws will lead to the dismantling of the MSP system under which government agencies buy their crop at an assured price.
