Gurgaon: For the first time in the city, people in the 18-44 years category will be able to get vaccinated at 37 government centres without any prior registration. On Monday, the health department will conduct the walk-in vaccination drive and 200 people in the age group would be inoculated in each of the 37 session sites. No registration on Co-WIN would be required and Covaxin shots would be administered at all centres, officials have said. It will be a one-day exercise and the target is to inoculate 7,400 people.

For the past few days, people in the 18-44 years age group could get jabs only at private centres or at drive-through sites.“Due to limited number of vaccine doses available with us, we are planning to inoculate the first 200 people who reach each site. Police and civil defence teams would be deployed at these centres. Residents will be given tokens and only those with tokens would get the jabs. We held a meeting with all medical officers in Gurgaon and they have been briefed about crowd management and vaccination protocols for Monday. It is the first time that walk-in vaccination sessions are being held in the city for people in the 18-44 years age group. No prior registrations would be needed for Monday’s exercise,” said Dr Virender Yadav, the chief medical officer, Gurgaon.

However, there will be no vaccination sites for the 45-plus category on Monday, the officials said. On Monday, a vaccination session will also be held for people with special needs at Pataudi government hospital and 200 slots would be available. The inoculation drive will start at 10 am.

Meanwhile, the health department has vaccine stocks that will last only till Monday. “If we do not get a fresh consignment by Monday, then we will have to discontinue the vaccination drive completely,” Yadav said, adding that they do not have any information about when fresh stocks are likely to arrive.

Earlier also, the inoculation process had to be put on hold because of vaccine shortage. On Sunday, 3,884 people in the 18-44 years age group got vaccinated in Gurgaon. As many as 1,260 people who got the jabs during the day were in the 45+ category. A total of 29 healthcare and 92 frontline workers also got the vaccine. Three drive-through sites were open on Sunday and in all, 916 people were inoculated in those.

On May 25, the health department had said that it is also planning to start on-site registrations on Co-WIN for people in the 18-44 years age group in the rural centres across the district. People who don’t have smartphones, mobile phones and internet access can reach government vaccination centres and get themselves registered at the site.
