OT & registration for pets soon: MCG plans city’s 2nd dog shelter

Gurgaon: MCG is going to set up a new dog shelter in Begumpur Khatola for which the civic body has already floated a tender. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 4.5 crore and it will have dog pounds, kennels and operation theatres among other facilities. The shelter will also oversee sterilisations and vaccination against rabies. The civic body currently has only one dog shelter in the city, in Basai.The tender for a new dog shelter to come up in Begumpur Khatola is already in its advanced stage. We are going to also make OTs at this shelter and the anti-rabies vaccination and sterilisation will also be done at this shelter. Moreover, the ferocious dogs will also be kept under observation there, said Dr Ashish Singla, CMO, MCG.MCG commissioner and GMDA CEO PC Meena has also directed the officials to ensure that the residents get their pet dog registration done. For this, it will recruit the help of RWAs to apprise residents to register their pet dogs.A meeting was convened here on Wednesday evening by the MCG commissioner to discuss issues related to stray dogs, pet dogs registration, new animal shelter etc. At the meeting, it was decided that MCG will soon issue guidelines for the pet dog registration. It was also decided that residents will have to register their pet dogs. Those who fail to register will have a penalty imposed on them.MCG has registered 650 pet dogs from April 1 till date and 1,450 pet dogs were registered in the last fiscal year.The penalty amount has not yet been decided, however, we will soon come up with the guidelines in which the penalty amount will also be specified, said an MCG official familiar with the matter. The first-time registration fee is Rs 500 and Rs 250 will have to be paid for its renewal. The pet owners can complete the registration through the Saral Haryana portal and the facility is also available at the citizen facilitation centre at MCGs old office.It was also discussed in the meeting that MCG will ensure enforcement of animal birth control (ABC) rules, 2023 and Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) guidelines. This effort comes as the Delhi High Court in India emphasizes the need for urgent action to address the issue of stray dogs in the national capital.GMDA to carry out desilting of sewer network in MCG areasThe Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) will take over the responsibility of cleaning internal sewer lines in Sector 15 part-2, as the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has repeatedly failed to resolve the issue of overflowing sewage. The GMDA will use super sucker machines for this one-time cleanliness work, estimated to cost Rs 2.14 crore. While the GMDA is responsible for major services, the MCG will continue to handle the operation and maintenance of the sewer lines. The work is expected to be completed within six months after the tendering process is initiated.
