Kapala gang’s snatching spree in Gurgaon cut short, 2 land in police net

GURGAON: Two members of the Kapala gang, notorious for snatching jewellery and phones from pedestrians, were arrested from the city on Thursday.Two other members of the gang are yet to be identified and traced, police said on Friday.According to cops, Rahul (23) alias Kapala, who belongs to Madhepura district of Bihar, got out on bail around six months back in another case and got back to snatching. The other accused — Deepu Kumar (22) of Begusarai district of Bihar — has a similar past, police officers said.Both of them have been involved in a dozen cases of thefts, robberies, snatching incidents, fights and illegal possession of guns.But not all cases against them were registered at police stations. We got to know about their involvement in other crimes only after interrogation. It was either because the concerned cop did not register the case or the victim did not bother to do so, a senior police officer said.ACP (crime) Varun Dahiya said that the gang would first steal bikes and then plan snatchings. They would primarily target women walking on their own in the mornings or evenings, and monitor the footfall in areas such as DLF, Sector 40 and Udyog Vihar. They would also observe a persons routine and execute the snatching. In case of resistance, they had weapons to threaten the target, Dahiya said.The latest snatching that the gang may have executed was ten days back, when a gold chain was snatched from a woman while she was on a morning walk in Sector 14 on September 12.An FIR was registered at the Sector 14 police station under Section 379A (snatching) of the Indian Penal Code and provisions of the Arms Act. The police analyzed CCTV footage and identified the accused, who was later found at his relatives house in Verem. The stolen chain and the scooter used in the crime have been recovered. The accused is currently in police custody.Duo snatch three purses near BhorTwo men on a green motorcycle snatched three purses from women riding pillion on motorcycles near Nere village along the Bhor-Wai road. The duo used a motorcycle without a number plate. They targeted victims at different locations, stealing cash, gold chains, and purses collectively worth Rs 30,200.
