ED money laundering case: Warrant against Cong MLA, two sons

GURGAON:Gurgaon: A local court has issued non-bailable warrants against Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhoker and his sons Sikander and Vikas in connection with a case of alleged money laundering worth Rs 100 crore. The three are directors of Mahira Group, a real estate company.On August 16, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) moved court, alleging that the Mahira directors had submitted a fake bank guarantee to obtain a licence for developing group housing societies in the city and diverted funds collected from homebuyers for personal gains. The real estate company has other cases against it for delayed projects.In its petition, ED referred to a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy registered against the company at Sushant Lok police station in January 2021. The company — then known as Sai Aaina Farms Pvt Ltd — had allegedly submitted fake bank guarantees with the director of town and country planning for getting a project in Sector 68 approved. In November that year, ED registered a case under Prevention of the Money Laundering Act.One more FIR was registered against the company and its directors in May 2022 at Rajendra Park police station. The agency subsequently conducted searches on the company premises.According to the ED, Mahira Group had collected Rs 360 crore from homebuyers to build around 1,500 houses over 10 acres. It. However, it failed to deliver the project. Quoting its preliminary probe, ED told the court that the company siphoned off money collected from homebuyers and showed them as construction expenditure by furnishing forged bills. Several personal expenditures were included in this category, the ED alleged. The agency contended that Rs 107 crore were diverted through forged bills and loans.The ED also told the court that the three directors did not respond to multiple requests issued by it for questioning.
