Phone snatchers target man out to dump waste in Gurgaon; held

GURGAON: Two men were arrested on Tuesday morning for allegedly assaulting a 20-year-old resident of New Palam Vihar, Phase 1 and attempting to snatch his phones, police said.According to police, the accused were identified as Arun alias Kala from Uttar Pradesh and Rajkumar, both residents of Ashok Vihar.Complainant Vikas Paswan told police he had stepped out of his house to dump garbage around 8.30am on Tuesday when he was approached by two youths on a bike.They started talking to me rudely, and suddenly, the guy riding pillion got off, only to grab me and cover my mouth, so as to snatch two of my mobile phones from my pocket, Paswan said.As they attempted to flee, Paswan said he began to yell to get the attention of passersby. Paswans brother, who had been returning to their house at the time, noticed what was happening and began to chase the assailants down. The accused fell off their bike and were surrounded by passersby, who apprehended the duo on the spot, Paswan added.The complainant then called the police and a team arrived on the spot and arrested the two accused. An FIR was registered against the arrested accused under sections 279 (snatching) and 34 (common intentions) of the IPC at the Bajghera police station on Tuesday.When we reached the spot, we saw that the crowd had already apprehend the accused. We took them into our custody immediately. We have procured the stolen phones along with the sim cards from them. The students, identified as A Purushothkumar and K Ravichandra Raja, snatched the phone from Paben Roy, a construction worker from West Bengal. They were caught by two residents who handed them over to the police. The phone and their two-wheeler were seized, and the students were remanded in judicial custody. Purushothkumar is a third-year BBA student while Ravichandra Raja is a third-year BCom student.
