GURUGRAM: National Health Mission (NHM) workers in Haryana are on warpath again, after three dozens of their colleagues lost their job. The workers have now decided to gherao the chief minister's official residence in Chandigarh on May 13, to register their protest and hold a state-wide strike According to NHM workers , for three years they have been getting only assurances from the state government but none of their demands have been accepted. Their main grievance is that District Programme Management (DPM), a part of NHM, after sacking several employees, has now decided to terminate the contracts of more 519 workers in the upcoming months.Gurgaon district president of NHM workers' union Hariraj said, "We will talk to Amrit Kaur, managing director, NHM, one last time and demand that the government stops its highhandedness in dealing with us or else all healthcare services across Haryana will be brought to a halt."All health workers, including dispensary and ambulance staff will participate in the protest at Chandigarh. The workers said that all category IV employees of the state-wide health services will participate in the movement and that they have been receiving support from senior category staff too.Since multiple talks have already taken place with the government, NHM workers have decided that this time the will relent only after a written assurance is given to them.Earlier this week, on Monday, the NHM workers had gheraod the office of Gurgaon's chief medical officer.
