State-level officials to probe Fortis over-billing

GURGAON: The district-level probe panel that was formed to investigate alleged overbilling case by Fortis in case of 7-year-old Adya Singh has been scrapped. Following this, the three-member team constituted by the chief medical officer (CMO) Gurgaon to look into the case was scrapped. In its place, a high-level committee consisting of state-level officials will conduct an inquiry in the matter. We need to find out if the treatment was correct, and if the hospital has overcharged the patient's family," said BK Rajora, Civil Hospital CMO. Now, additional director general ( ADG ) health Rajeev Vadhera, director of health services Dr Aditya Choudhry, CMO Gurgaon Dr B K Rajora, and CEO Gurgaon district council Chinar Chahal will probe the case.

The state department officials arrived in Gurgaon on late Wednesday evening and investigations will start from Thursday. Fortis hospital had charged Rs 15.79 lakh from Adya's family for her 15 day treatment but failed to save the child suffering from dengue.Union health minister J P Nadda had sought details of the case after a tweet by a friend of the girl's father went viral. Union health secretary Preeti Sudan also wrote to the Haryana government. Following this, the three-member team constituted by the chief medical officer (CMO) Gurgaon to look into the case was scrapped. Now, additional director general ( ADG ) health Rajeev Vadhera, director of health services Dr Aditya Choudhry, CMO Gurgaon Dr B K Rajora, and CEO Gurgaon district council Chinar Chahal will probe the case. The committee set up principal secretary health Amit Jha, on the orders of Haryana health minister Anil Vij, will not only check if the hospital overbilled the bereaved family but also check the line of treatment taken by the doctors at Fortis. Earlier, the district level committee included Dr Ramprakash, Dr SS Saroha and CMO Dr BK Rajora.Haryana Health Minister, Anil Vij had constituted a committee that will be headed by Additional Director General (Health). The team will investigate the matter, would visit the hospital and seek detailed information about medicines, treatment given to the girl by doctors, reasons for her death, bill details, and also find out whether the girl had dengue or not. He said that strict action would be taken if the hospital was found guilty in the report. The treatment of dengue was free of cost in all the government hospitals of the state, but, its treatment even in private hospitals could not cost up to Rs 16 lakh. We will not allow the private hospitals to loot patients like this and necessary action would be taken in this direction, said Vij."We have formed a three-member team of doctors to look into the matter of Fortis Memorial Research Institute (Gurgaon). The investigation report will be submitted to the health department in Chandigarh. We need to find out if the treatment was correct, and if the hospital has overcharged the patient's family," said BK Rajora, Civil Hospital CMO.
