GUWAHATI: A security guard of an apartment in the city's Chenikuthi area was arrested on Thursday for allegedly sodomizing a 12-year-old boy.City police said the accused, identified as Kabindra Phukan, hails from the Phulaguri area in Morigaon district and joined as a security guard last week."According to the victim, the security guard lured the boy to his quarters on Wednesday and sexually abused him. The boy managed to flee but did not tell his family anything because of the trauma he had undergone," Chandmari police sources said. The incident came to light later in the day when the boy asked his elder brother to get him medicines for physical discomfort. Police added that the accused has admitted to his crime.Meanwhile, the All Assam Goriya Parishad, a group of indigenous Muslim communities in the state, staged a dharna here on Thursday to press for strong legislation to take action against perpetrators of crimes against women and children. Assam has seen a sharp rise in incidents of rape and molestation in recent years, including a recent incident in which a class V student was gang-raped and then set on fire at Lalung Gaon in Nagaon district of central Assam.
