GUWAHATI: In yet another instance of moral policing in Assam, a man and a woman were allegedly confined and beaten up on Saturday by villagers in Assam 's Nagaon district for having an " illicit affair ". A police team from Kathiatoli outpost rushed to the spot and rescued them," Assam Police said in a statement. "Residents of Jhumurmur village physically assaulted Devi Barua and Ubed Ullah and confined them in a house. "The arrested were part of the mob," Nagaon SP Shankar Barata Raimedhi told TOI .A week ago, a mob had attacked a couple at a village in Goalpara , claiming it was "improper" for an unmarried couple to move around together.
