Churches in Northeast promoting separatist ideas: VHP leader

In the northeast, churches created more division among communities than unifying them. But they never acknowledge that millions of children were saved by Mother Teresa 's charity home. They are targeting the minuscule Christian population by tarnishing the image of Mother Teresa. Places where churches wield influence suffer from lack of development - be it in Odisha or the Northeast. "But it is sure Togadia can neither destroy Modi ji nor damage VHP," he added.

GUWAHATI: VHP international joint general secretary Surendra Jain on Thursday sparked a controversy here by saying that churches, church-run organisations and even madrassas in the country should be brought under investigation.Referring to the arrest of a nun and a worker in connection with a baby trafficking case at a Missionaries of Charity-run shelter home in Ranchi, the VHP leader added, "In Ranchi, 280 babies were sold in three years. In the northeast, churches created more division among communities than unifying them. Places where churches wield influence suffer from lack of development - be it in Odisha or the Northeast. Even madrassas are not free from the charge of child trafficking. They should be brought under investigation."Jain, who was here to take stock of the training session of members of VHP's Durga Vahini and Matri Shakti wings, said churches in the northeast have helped in spreading separatist ideas among the tribals in the name of social service.Reacting to Jain's allegations, Assam Christian Forum spokesperson Allen Brooks said it is a clear-cut agenda to attack the Christians by tarnishing the image of Mother Teresa. "Today, they (VHP) are taking into account the Ranchi incident. But they never acknowledge that millions of children were saved by Mother Teresa 's charity home. They are targeting the minuscule Christian population by tarnishing the image of Mother Teresa. The good work done by the churches in the field of education and social justice is never acknowledged by these forces," he added."We, as a community, have faith in our democracy and the Constitution. India is a country of resilience," said Brooks.Asked about former VHP leader Pravin Togadia's remark that the Army should capture a portion of Bangladesh to settle ilegal immigrants after the final draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC) is out, Jain said all of them should be rather dumped in the Indian Ocean. "When Saudi Arabia can say that Bangladeshis who tried to settle in that country should be dumped in the Arabian Sea, we also have Hind Mahasagar (Indian Ocean)," he added.Taking potshots at Togadia, who has floated the Antarrastriya Hindu Parishad, Jain said the former VHP president should clarify whether he wants to 'destroy Modi ji' or promote Rahul Gandhi. "But it is sure Togadia can neither destroy Modi ji nor damage VHP," he added.
