Four held for assault on cops in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Dibrugarh Police arrested four persons, including three members of one family, for assaulting policemen on duty during Independence Day security checking in Banipur area of the town on Wednesday morning. Four policemen, including DSP Anurag Sharma, constables Phanindra Mohan Kumud Sonowal and driver-cum-constable Pabitra Dutta were injured in the incident. Another police team reached the spot immediately and all the four accused were taken into custody," Dibrugarh additional SP (headquarters) Surjeet Singh Panesar said on Thursday.Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 143/353/333/342/294/506 of the IPC at the Dibrugarh police station. When the cops asked the occupants to open the boot of the car, they refused to do so and instead abused and attacked the policemen, landing punches and blows. "All the occupants of the car were in an inebriated condition.

The arrested persons were identified as Rabi Baruah, a businessman, his wife Joon Baruah, his son Akash and Bijit Dutta , an AJYCP leader from Lahowal.According to police, the incident occured at around 1.30 am when a four-member police team stopped an unregistered car near Banipur. When the cops asked the occupants to open the boot of the car, they refused to do so and instead abused and attacked the policemen, landing punches and blows."All the occupants of the car were in an inebriated condition. When asked to cooperate they violently attacked the police team. Four policemen, including DSP Anurag Sharma, constables Phanindra Mohan Kumud Sonowal and driver-cum-constable Pabitra Dutta were injured in the incident. Another police team reached the spot immediately and all the four accused were taken into custody," Dibrugarh additional SP (headquarters) Surjeet Singh Panesar said on Thursday.Police have registered a case against the accused under sections 143/353/333/342/294/506 of the IPC at the Dibrugarh police station. They were produced before court on Thursday and were remanded to judicial custody.
