Surrender before police by August 24, Guwahati High Court tells Pallavi

GUWAHATI: Granting no further relief to arrested Assam Police Service (APS) official Pallavi Sharma , the Gauhati high court on Monday asked her to surrender before police within August 24. The court, therefore, ordered Pallavi to surrender within August 24. Sources close to Pallavi said she would possibly move court again. Pallavi was also asked to bear the cost of transportation of the police personnel. Dibrugarh Police have so far arrested some 67 people, including former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul and over 55 government officials, recruited during his tenure.

GUWAHATI: Granting no further relief to arrested Assam Police Service (APS) official Pallavi Sharma , the Gauhati high court on Monday asked her to surrender before police within August 24. Pallavi is the daughter of BJP MP RP Sharma On August 1, the HC had granted her an interim bail for 15 days to visit her ailing father who is undergoing treatment in Kolkata. The court extended the bail period till August 20 later after she cited her father's 'unchanged' health condition and ordered Dibrugarh Police to inspect the health condition of the MP and collect a medical report.BD Konwar, counsel of Pallavi, said, "The Dibrugarh Police have furnished the medical report of RP Sharma which says he is currently stable. The court, therefore, ordered Pallavi to surrender within August 24."While granting her interim bail, the court had ordered her not to get involved in any other activity other than taking care of her father and also engaged a woman constable to keep a watch on her round-the-clock. Pallavi was also asked to bear the cost of transportation of the police personnel. Sources close to Pallavi said she would possibly move court again. The BJP MP had undergone kidney transplantation on July 30, two weeks after his daughter was arrested. Before being admitted to hospital, the MP had said it's a political conspiracy against him and his family.Pallavi was arrested last month along with 18 others in connection with the cash-for-job scam in the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). They were arrested after their handwriting tests allegedly indicated anomalies in their original answer scripts. Dibrugarh Police have so far arrested some 67 people, including former APSC chairman Rakesh Kumar Paul and over 55 government officials, recruited during his tenure.
