4 Assam districts reel from floods

GUWAHATI: More than 12,000 people in four districts of Assam remain affected due to the current wave of flood. Dhemaji district on the downstream of Siang river flowing from Tibet as Yarlung Tsangpo is the worst hit. So far, 50 people have lost their lives. The other affected districts are Biswanath, Golaghat and Sivasagar.According to the state disaster management authority, the Brahmaputra, Dhansiri and Jia Bharali rivers are flowing above the danger level mark.The situation in Sivasagar and Golaghat districts, both bordering Nagaland, has turned worse due to incessant rains in the neighbouring hill state, which has raised the water level of the tributaries of Brahmaputra river flowing from the hills.In Guwahati, artificial floods caused by heavy rain over 12 hours inundated several localities on Sunday.
