Aasu stages protest against state of NH-37

Even the CM's plea to National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to repair the highway has fallen on deaf ears. "The entire stretch of the NH-37 is full of potholes and deep craters. The CM had to reschedule his visit to the afternoon because of the protest. The CM's convoy was supposed to pass along the stretch of the highway in the morning. It's a matter of shame," said Aasu Dibrugarh district general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah.On July 5, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during his visit to Dibrugarh had issued a strict warning to NHIDCL officials to repair the NH-37 within 30 hours.

DIBRUGARH: Hundreds of activists of All Assam Students' Union (Aasu) on Monday blocked the NH-37 at Chawalkhowa in Dibrugarh for an hour demanding immediate repair of the busy highway.The protest was held to coincide with chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal 's proposed visit to his ancestral Bindhakota Muluk gaon near Chabua . The CM's convoy was supposed to pass along the stretch of the highway in the morning. The CM had to reschedule his visit to the afternoon because of the protest. "The entire stretch of the NH-37 is full of potholes and deep craters. There have been several accidents because of the bad condition of the road but no measures have been taken to repair it. Even the CM's plea to National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to repair the highway has fallen on deaf ears. What more can we say? It's a matter of shame," said Aasu Dibrugarh district general secretary Sankar Jyoti Baruah.On July 5, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal during his visit to Dibrugarh had issued a strict warning to NHIDCL officials to repair the NH-37 within 30 hours. However, even after the ultimatum, no visible change could be seen regarding the condition of the highway.
