Five bodies recovered from a river in Sivasagar district

On Monday Army’s para commandos and a divers’ team from Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam A Naval divers searched more than three kilometers of the river with sophisticated sonar equipment for nearly 12 hours on Tuesday but could not locate the vehicle till the search was called off late evening.The SDRF team on Wednesday used a 10-kg magnet to sweep the river, which proved successful as the magnet stuck to the bonnet of the car. GUWAHATI: Nearly 90 hours after a vehicle with five members of a family of a Guwahati-based businessman fell into a river in Sivasagar district in Assam , personnel of state disaster management authority on Wednesday recovered the car with the five bodies trapped inside.The bodies of the businessman, 52-year-old Haren Bora , his mother Panou Bora (86), his wife Phunu Bora (48) and his two daughters, 21-year-old Chimpi and 18-years-old Munmi were found in each other’s embrace inside the vehicle when it was pulled out of the river at around 12.20 pm.Bora was at wheels of his Swift Dezire car when the it skidded off the river embankment into the river Dikhou around 5.30 on Saturday evening on Saturday with the other members of his family inside.The entire family was travelling to Bora’s ancestral home at Nakatani of Gaurisagar in the district along the embankment when the vehicle slipped when Bora tried to cross a bridge over river Dikhou near Na-Dishia and fell into the river.After a day-long attempt, teams of NDRF and SDRF could not locate the car on Sunday, after which the state government sought help from expert agencies.
