Five dead in Arunachal flash floods, 150 rescued in Dhemaji

ITANAGAR/JORHAT: Death toll in Friday's flash floods and landslides rose to five, with one more body being found on Saturday night. The villagers were shifted to a relief camp at Jonai Higher secondary school. "Mary Beyong (32) from Modirijo had gone missing on Friday. A 10-year-old girl, Pangpi Beyong, remains missing, he added.Incessant rain over the past few days triggered had flash floods and landslides in parts of the state capital, washing away 26 houses and damaging 60. According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority, over 1.4 lakh people across six upper Assam districts have been affected by the floods.In Dhemaji, district administration officials with the help of an SDRF team rescued about 150 villagers from Kabu Chapori on Sunday.

Her body was fished out of the Dikrong river at Nepali Gaon in Assam 's Lakhimpur district by Banderdewa Police and a National Disaster Relief Force team," Itanagar Capital Complex deputy commissioner Prince Dhawan said. A 10-year-old girl, Pangpi Beyong, remains missing, he added.Incessant rain over the past few days triggered had flash floods and landslides in parts of the state capital, washing away 26 houses and damaging 60. The approach road to Modirijo has been entirely swept away by the floodwaters.Itanagar legislator Techi Kaso and the deputy commissioner distributed relief material to those whose houses were washed away. A medical team also took part in the relief operation and provided first aid, conducted health check-ups and checked for water-borne diseases.In Assam, the water level of the Brahmaputra is constantly rising at Neematighat. Ferry services to and from Majuli remained suspended for the second consecutive day on Sunday.
