Security stepped up in Jorhat district

JORHAT: Additional security forces have been deployed and CCTVs have been installed around puja pandals in Jorhat as part of an initiative to step up security arrangements to thwart any untoward incident during Durga Puja.Superintendent of Jorhat Police, Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakant, said, "Security has been beefed up in all parts of Jorhat on the eve of Durga Puja celebrations. Altogether 207 committees have organized Durga Puja across the district this year. In Jorhat town, the number of puja pandals has gone up to 84, with six new puja committees.Police have divided the town area into four sectors. We have divided the district into different zones and sectors to monitor the situation. Additional forces have reached Jorhat and have been accordingly deployed in all required places.

Every zone has been divided into different sectors, with the sectors under the supervision of a sector officer. Additional forces have reached Jorhat and have been accordingly deployed in all required places."Installation of CCTV cameras in pandals and some roads are on and six control centres have been opened, the SP added.Jorhat is one of the biggest towns in upper Assam and has a 128-km interstate border with Nagaland , where some militants groups are reported to be active. Altogether 207 committees have organized Durga Puja across the district this year. In Jorhat town, the number of puja pandals has gone up to 84, with six new puja committees.Police have divided the town area into four sectors. Besides regular security staff, a five-member village defence party (VDP) mobile squad, four rider teams with five armed personnel in each team, a special women's police team, two specially trained quick response teams, two traffic police rider squads, Assam Police radio organization teams and adequate CRPF forces shall keep strict vigil in and around the town, police sources added.CCTV cameras have been installed at prime locations like Gar Ali, Nirmal Chariali, Thakurbari, PWD point, Baruah Chariali and JPR Road. Installation is on in some other popular Puja pandals like Lachit Bazar, Unnayan Super Market, Harijan Colony, Rajamoidam, Marwari Thakurbari, Fancy Ali, Rajabari Railgate, Banshbari Madhyam Para, Mariani Diary, Lichubari, Tarajan Puja Mandir, Ramkrishna Mission compound, Town railway station, Burhi Gosani Devalaya, Thana Road, Barbarua Lane and Rupahiali Durga Puja.
