31 Bangladeshis flee Bengaluru fearing police action, held in Assam

GUWAHATI: Assam railway police detained 31 suspected Bangladeshi nationals, including 13 minors, from Guwahati railway station on Monday. "Many of them claimed they would travel between the two countries frequently," a railway police source said. They had reached Guwahati from Bengaluru on Sunday," SP Hemanta Kumar Das said. Railway police sources said a recent police drive in Bengaluru was why they had fled. They had entered India three years ago and had been doing petty jobs in Bengaluru.

GUWAHATI: Assam railway police detained 31 suspected Bangladeshi nationals, including 13 minors, from Guwahati railway station on Monday. All of them were apprehended while they were preparing to board a train for Agartala , from where, they claimed, they would have headed to Bangladesh Preliminary investigation found they all had government documents like PAN cards and Aadhaar cards. One of them, a source said, even admitted to having a voter card. "Upon questioning, they divulged that they hail from Bagerhat district of Bangladesh. They had entered India three years ago and had been doing petty jobs in Bengaluru. They had reached Guwahati from Bengaluru on Sunday," SP Hemanta Kumar Das said."We have registered a case under sections of the Foreigners Act and sought custody of at least five of them for five days. Bengaluru Police have also been alerted," the SP added. Railway police sources said a recent police drive in Bengaluru was why they had fled. "Many of them claimed they would travel between the two countries frequently," a railway police source said.
