Mizoram speaker meets Himanta, may join BJP

AIZAWL: The ruling Congress in Mizoram, which has already lost four MLAs, is jittery following speaker Hiphei's sudden visit to Guwahati on Tuesday to hold talks with Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for joining BJP Sources in BJP said Hiphei, who met Himanta at his official residence in Aizawl earlier, held another round of meeting with the minister in Guwahati on Tuesday night. Throwing more light on the development, sources in Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) said Hiphei, who was earlier selected as the party candidate for the Palak assembly seat in Siaha district, is most likely to join the saffron party. They added that K Riachho, a retired IAS officer, is likely to replace Hiphei as party nominee in Palak.Earlier, four ruling Congress legislators had resigned from the assembly.

While Lalzirliana and Sailo joined the Mizo National Front (MNF), Chakma joined BJP. Khiangte may contest as an Independent from the Tuirial seat, his home turf.The political drama in Mizoram unfolded when six Congress members of the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) raised objections to the recommendations of the nomination board of the Mara Autonomous District Congress Committee .
