ULFA (I) denies its involvement in Tinsukia shootout

GUWAHATI: The Myanmar-based anti-talk Ulfa (Independent) on Friday denied the outfit’s involvement in the shootout in Tinsukia district on Thursday evening in which five Bengali-speaking men were killed.In a statement issued by the member of outfit’s publicity department Romel Asom said, “We the ULFA (I) would like to make it clear to all concerned authorities that our organisation does not have any involvement in the firing incident that occurred on November 1 at Sadiya Saikhowaghat in Tinsukia district.”The police also are refusing to confirm the identity of the killers at this moment. Someone also called up the Dhola police station, just a stone’s throw away but the mobile phones of the officials were shown switched off,” the lone survivor Sahadev Namasudra said.He said, “The men first fired something in the air that produced lot of smoke around us and then started firing at us.”
