GUWAHATI: Asom Gana Parishad leadership is perplexed by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal still keeping on hold the resignations of the party’s three ministers for 10 days now.Party president and former agriculture minister Atul Borah also clarified that contrary to comments from various people in the media, his party does not have to go the governor to submit the letter of withdrawal of support to the government because there was no submission of such a letter to governor when the government was formed in 2016.“There is no mystery in this. No one should doubt our intention. We announced our resignation in front media. We also announced our exit from the government in front of media. It is the responsibility of the chief minister to forward our resignation letters to the governor, not ours. Under the system a minister has to submit his resignation letter to the chief minister and not the governor,” Borah said.He added, “What can we do when the chief minister has not accepted our resignation letters till now?” A source in the chief minister’s office confirmed that the chief minister is yet to accept the resignation of the three AGP ministers Borah also clarified, “There is no necessity for us to go to the governor with a letter of withdrawal of our support to the government. We did not give any letter of support to governor when this coalition government was formed two and half years back so where is the question of giving him a letter of withdrawal of support.”AGP had walked out of the alliance with BJP and BPF on January 7 opposing the Citizenship (amendment) Bill, a day before it was passed by voice vote in Lok Sabha .
