Pulwama terror: IIT reviews security needs of Kashmiri students

"Though no backlash over the Pulwama incident has been reported here in IIT Guwahati, all hostel wardens have been put on alert to prevent any possible untoward incident in the campus. The campus atmosphere has always been friendly here," said Adil Majeed Rather, a research scholar of Chemistry at IIT Guwahati hailing from Jammu and Kashmir. "No disturbing incident has happened in the IIT Guwahati campus. "The Assam government has instructed the police to ensure that the Pulwama incident does not spark any tension in any part of the state," said the police official. GUWAHATI: Exploring the possible threat perception to Kashmiri students following the Pulwama terror strike, IIT Guwahati authorities are reviewing security needs of students and research scholars from the Valley in the premier technology institute.With anger and outrage spilling onto the streets in the city following the attack on a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, the authorities have put its hostel wardens and student representatives on alert regarding the security of Kashmiri students in the campus.

GUWAHATI: Exploring the possible threat perception to Kashmiri students following the Pulwama terror strike, IIT Guwahati authorities are reviewing security needs of students and research scholars from the Valley in the premier technology institute.With anger and outrage spilling onto the streets in the city following the attack on a CRPF convoy in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, the authorities have put its hostel wardens and student representatives on alert regarding the security of Kashmiri students in the campus."Though no backlash over the Pulwama incident has been reported here in IIT Guwahati, all hostel wardens have been put on alert to prevent any possible untoward incident in the campus. If required, we will take help of police. As of now, however, the situation is peaceful here," dean of students' affairs at IIT Guwahati, Swaroop Nandan Bora, told TOI on Sunday.Students from Jammu and Kashmir are facing backlash in many parts of the country over the attack on the CRPF convoy.The institutes's authorities are ascertaining the number of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in IIT Guwahati. The government has taken a stand to ensure the safety of people from Jammu and Kashmir along with students from the Valley after several incidents were reported of students from the region being targeted across the country following the Pulwama attack.Even as series of protests continued in the city on Sunday following the mayhem in Pulwama, Kashmiri students in IIT Guwahati said they feel 'absolutely safe'. "No disturbing incident has happened in the IIT Guwahati campus. We are feeling at home and feeling absolutely safe. The campus atmosphere has always been friendly here," said Adil Majeed Rather, a research scholar of Chemistry at IIT Guwahati hailing from Jammu and Kashmir. Assam Police sources said immediately after the attack on the CRPF convoy, the state government has asked police to keep a strict vigil on the law and order situation in the state. "The Assam government has instructed the police to ensure that the Pulwama incident does not spark any tension in any part of the state," said the police official.
