Two more held in Assam for pro-Pak Facebook posts

Ahejuddin Ahmed, a resident of Dolgaon in Darrang district, was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly posting a pro-Pakistan status on social media. One of them later lodged a police complaint against him.Darrang superintendent of police Amit Bhuyan said, “Ahmed was arrested for posting a comment that included pro-Pakistan slogans and promoted hate speech. But the accused has denied the charges. He is claiming that he did not operate the Facebook account from where the post was uploaded.” Ahmed has reportedly claimed that he had sold his mobile phone, following which his Facebook account was hacked, Darrang Police sources said.A similar incident was also reported from lower Assam’s Bongaigaon district. “A man called Rahul Hussain was detained after he allegedly posted a comment against the Indian security forces. Hafizur Rahman (19) alias Sunny was arrested from ward number 2 in Mangaldoi town on sedition charges for allegedly posting derogatory posts against the state of India on Facebook.The youth was charged with ‘attempting to incite disaffection towards the government’ and allegedly showing disregard to Indian security forces. Hafizur posted a cartoon where a Pakistani was shown hanging an Indian.Police also booked Aminul Islam, an youth from Basugaon area of Chirang district, on Tuesday, for allegedly praising Pakistan’s army on Facebook.Ajmal Hussain, an youth from Sonitpur, was arrested by Tezpur Police on Tuesday for allegedly posting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ on Facebook. Another youth from Lakhimpur, Rahul Tanti, was taken into police custody for allegedly posting “Pakistan Zindabad” on social networking sites.Assam Police chief Kuladhar Saikia said, “Directions have been given to the district police to maintain sharp vigilance on online activities and act promptly. We urge everyone to avoid posting provocative statements or comments on social media and to maintain peace.”
