BJP vows to win 12 Lok Sabha seats in Assam

Addressing party workers, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal vowed to win 12 Lok Sabha seats from the state in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. In the 2014 election , the saffron party had won 7 seats out of the 14 Lok Sabha seats, followed by Congress and AIUDF with 3 seats each, while one seat went to an Independent candidate. Dibrugarh: With the aim of galvanising its support base for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, BJP on Thursday organised a mass rally at the Chowkidinghee playground. The rally was addressed by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal, BJP’s Assam-in-charge Mahendra Singh and state finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.Thousands of saffron party workers from Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur and Jorhat Lok Sabha constituencies participated in the rally. In Assam, we have seen that already 14 districts have become minority-dominated due to influx of illegal Bangladeshi migrants.

Urging party workers to keep close contact with voters of respective areas, Sonowal said BJP is committed to improve on its 2014 performance in the state.“We are going to win a minimum of 12 seats in the state in the 2019 general election. People will vote for BJP for good governance. We will win with a thumping majority and form the government at the Centre for a second term under Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our party believes in the mantra of collective effort and inclusive growth (Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas) for the progress of the country. We have to move forward together to fulfil our dream of a strong and resurgent India,” Sonowal said.The chief minister said the government has worked for development of every section of society since coming to power two years and ten months ago.“After coming to power, we gave land pattas to landless people and small tea growers of the state, which the Congress could not do in 70 years. On a single day, we gave land pattas to 11,700 landless people in Brahmaputra and Barak Valleys. Another 1 lakh people will be provided land pattas within this year. Similarly, 1 lakh 30 thousand small tea growers will be provided land pattas. Moreover, we made the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) corruption-free and transparent. Earlier, the Congress government was involved in corruption in the APSC exams. During our tenure, we have given appointments to 55,000 people in a completely transparent process. We have delivered in our commitment in making our state corruption-free and economically strong,” Sonowal said. He also paid tributes to the CRPF jawans martyred in the Pulwama terror attack.BJP’s Assam-in-charge Mahendra Singh in his speech said it is imperative for the people to vote BJP back to power as it is the only party which can ensure the country’s security. “Only the BJP is capable of safeguarding the interests of the country. In Assam, we have seen that already 14 districts have become minority-dominated due to influx of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. We won’t allow Assam to become second Kashmir. As long as BJP is in power, the land and identity of the Assamese people is safe,” Singh said.Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in his speech thanked PM Modi for transforming the socio-economic status of the northeast region and improving infrastructure here. “In the last four and half years, the entire northeast region has moved from the periphery to the core of national development agenda. Under the Act East policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has raised new hopes among the people of the region, who have otherwise always suffered due to neglect by successive governments at the Centre,” he said.
