Guwahati: BJP jumped the gun on celebrating its victory in two Arunachal Pradesh assembly seats on Tuesday. While its candidate for Aalo East constituency is headed for an unopposed win, the other seat it rejoiced over, Yachuli, is not yet in its hands yet.Two contenders had filed nominations for Yachuli — Taba Tedir (BJP) and Toko Yaram (JD-U). On Tuesday, there were some discrepancies noted in Yaram’s nomination papers. “The Election Commission said there were anomalies in one of my documents and has called for a second scrutiny tomorrow. I have time till 10 am on Wednesday to know what lies ahead for me,” Yaram told TOI.BJP, however, was quick to claim victories in both seats on Tuesday.BJP general secretary Ram Madhav tweeted, “Victory March of BJP starts from Arunachal Pradesh: Sir Kento Jini has won (uncontested) from Alo East constituency.” Union minister Kiren Rijiju also posted a celebratory tweet: “BJP scored first victory! BJP MLA candidate Shri Kento Jini from 31-Aalo East Constituency in Arunachal Pradesh is elected unopposed. Congratulations to all @BJP4India karyakartas of Aalo East and entire Arunachal Pradesh for the first success!”BJP’s Kento Jini remains the only contender from Aalo East after Congress candidate Minkir Lollen’s papers were found invalid and are not up for a second scrutiny. According to the EC, official announcement of the outcome of an election without contest can only be made on the last day of withdrawal of nominations, which, in this case, is March 28.So while BJP’s claim to a victory in Aalo East may be frowned upon, it may not be off the mark. But it did not stop there. An hour after his first tweet, Madhav tweeted again: “Another victory also from Arunachal Pradesh: Er Taba Tedir won unopposed from 16 Yachuli Assembly segment. (These two victories are for Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, which goes to polls together with parliament on 11 April)”.Rijiju followed soon after: “One more victory for BJP! Shri Taba Tedir becomes the second BJP MLA candidate to get elected unopposed from 16-Yachuli Assembly Constituency in Arunachal Pradesh. Congratulations to @BJP4India karyakartas of Yachuli Mondal and Arunachal Pradesh.”Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu, however, claimed one victory: “BJP party in Arunachal has made a good start. Shri Kento Jini, @BJP4India candidate from 31-Aalo East Assembly constituency is elected unopposed. Many congratulations to him and all BJP parivar.”
