STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: Questions are being raised again regarding the NRC in the State by BJP MLA from Hojai, Shiladitya Dev, who predicted of a massive agitation after August 31. Alleging that the NRC list will be published along with numerous Bangladeshi Muslims names, the MLA claimed that it will obliterate the Assamese community. Claiming that during the entire NRC procedure, it is the Hindu Bengalis who are the victims, MLA Shiladitya Dev said, “The names of the Hindu Bengalis, who settled in Assam before 1971, failed to make it to the NRC list due to lack of supporting documents. On the other hand, the Bangladeshi Muslims, who illegally migrated to the State after 1971, have managed to include their names in the list with fake documents.” “The release of the NRC final list on August 31 will create a wild-fire in the State and will generate a massive agitation from November. Moreover, the claim and objection process in the NRC raises certain moot questions of its own. Although the claim is justified, where people can vouch for their own citizenship, the objection is a tad complicated. It is almost the same as the IM (DT) Act, where proof of non-citizenship needs to be provided,” said Dev. The MLA further alleged that the AAMSU, AIUDF and the Congress parties are claiming that as the NRC procedures are under the supervision of the Supreme Court, the list of names included in the NRC list is agreeable, however, the names not included in the NRC list should be incorporated. He also questioned AAMSUs role in the NRC and asked why they have not identified a single Bangladesi Muslim. Shiladitya Dev stated that 76 to 77 percent of Muslim Bangladeshi names are processed in the NRC list which has gone unnoticed. However, the Foreign Tribunal (FT) has issued notice to the family of Assam Agitation martyr Madan Mallick of Dalimbari in Karbi Anglong.
