STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The ongoing debate on NRC doesnt seem to end soon. Whereas everyone, starting from the State government to different organizations, are now busy in criticizing the Supreme Court and Pratik Hajela, Communist Party of India (Marxist) appeals everyone to not spread communal hatred and to accept the NRC published on August 31 as a starting point of solving the foreigner issue that Assam is dealing with for decades. Addressing the media at the CPI-M state office on Tuesday, Secretary CPI-M Assam State Committee Deben Bhattacharya said, “From the very beginning our party has been standing for a progressive NRC. Now after the hardship of 52,000 official workers and supervision of the Supreme Court weve received a document for solving the issue that the people of Assam were waiting for a long period. So, the way a few are on mission to finish it by trying to create communal difference is not at all acceptable.” In the presence of the officials of the party including Suprakash Talukdar, Deben Bhattacharya, Isfakur Rahman, Udhav Barman the party made its statement that no doubt, its not an error free document, some technical error may occur, as its not an easy job to verify such a huge number of people but, the party is accepting the final NRC and the government should take proper provisions for those Indians whose name have been excluded from the list. The party suggested giving an identity card to those whose name came in the list. Criticizing state BJP leaders and ministers for their provocative statement Deben Bhattacharya said, “The Central Government has declared the NRC as a transparent and scientific document and the State government under the same Party is trying to create communal violence by making controversial comment on the issue. It means that they dont want the NRC and they want a lifelong decimation between Hindu and Muslim community.” According to the party no one has the right to speak against an IAS officer, many governments came into power but no one could and showed any interest in doing something in this respect. With the order by Supreme Court people of Assam have got an NRC and now no one should try to make it meaningless.
