Martyrs Sacrifices Not Reflected In NRC Asom Gana Parishad AGP

On this count, the regional party has requested the apex court to review the updated NRC. This, according to regional party, is a dampener for the sacrifices made by the martyrs and other people of the State during the six-year-long Assam Agitation. The meeting has decided to extend legal aid to the indigenous people who have been excluded from the final NRC. On the organizational front, the regional party has decided to carry out a membership drive from September 14 to October 14, 2019.

Staff Reporter GUWAHATI: The extended general house meeting of the AGP feels that the sacrifices of the martyrs and other people of Assam during the six-year-long Assam Agitation have not been reflected in the recently published NRC. The party has requested to the Supreme Court of India to review the updated NRC. The extended general house meeting of the regional party was held in Guwahati on Sunday with its president Atul Bora in the chair. Among other issues, the meeting had a detailed discussion on socio-political issues, especially the NRC. The meeting felt that the names of a large number of indigenous people of Assam have not been included in the final NRC. On this count, the regional party has requested the apex court to review the updated NRC. This, according to regional party, is a dampener for the sacrifices made by the martyrs and other people of the State during the six-year-long Assam Agitation. The meeting has decided to extend legal aid to the indigenous people who have been excluded from the final NRC. The party has decided to set up legal cells at district and Assembly constituency levels to extend legal help to indigenous people of the State excluded from the final NRC. On the organizational front, the regional party has decided to carry out a membership drive from September 14 to October 14, 2019. This October 14 is the 35th foundation day of the party that will be celebrated centrally by it at North Salmara. Elsewhere in the state, the district committees of the party will celebrate the day at their respective districts. The GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation), civic body and BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Area Districts) elections have also come up for discussion at the meeting.
