Guwahati: In a startling incident, a man suspecting his wife of having an extramarital affair stabbed her with a sharp knife in an attempt to kill her in the middle of a busy road in Guwahatis Beltola road. As per reports, ACP Nandini Kakati informed the media that the incident took place in the evening near a busy road. The accused identified as Lakhya Kalita and the victim, identified as Amina Begum were husband and wife. “Lakhya tried to kill Amina Begum after he suspected her of having an extramarital affair,” said ACP Nandini Kalita. ACP Kakati added that both of them were resident of Boko and were married for a few months according to Lakhya. Sources also informed that the victim received multiple injuries on her abdomen and on her back. She was immediately rushed to Health City Hospital for further medication. It is to be noted that the accused tried to kill her by stabbing her with a knife but his intentions of killing her could not be successful as the knife broke during the attack. The locals of the area rescued her and also intercepted Lakhya from escaping. Later, he was also beaten up severely by the locals before the police could arrive. The accused was arrested on the spot. He was later taken to the hospital as well. However, speaking about the horrific incident, Lakhya without any fear said that he clearly wanted to kill Amina as she had an extramarital affair. He claimed that she has affair with a person name Bishwa Kalita who owns a hotel in the area. Lakhya said, “My intentions were to kill her and then commit suicide. I have known for a long time that she had an affair with Bishwa and so I planned this plot.” He said that he knew that she would be coming out from Bishwas hotel in the evening and according to her time he planned to “execute” her in an attempt to teach her a lesson. However, the victim is still in a critical condition and is unable to speak about the incident. The police have initiated the proceedings of the case and have booked Kalita for an attempt to murder under section 326 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
