STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: Speaking about Clause 6 of Assam Accord, the Assam Indigenous People Protection Committee (AIPPC) stated that the indigenous people of Barak Valley fully support the governments stand to implement Clause 6. Addressing the media in press meet at Guwahati Press Club on Saturday, AIPPC General Secretary Seram Herajit Singh said, “We the indigenous people of Barak Valley have full support towards implementation of Clause 6. As an indigenous organization, we want reservation for the 15 MLA seats including 2 MP posts and other posts of District Council.” Addressing the exclusion of more than 1.5 lakh indigenous peoples name from the NRC, President AIPPC Sahadeb Rajbangshi said that they will never visit the Foreigners Tribunal to prove their identity and if the government wants to verify them then they have to visit their home. Joint Secretary of AIPPC Chittaranjan Singh said, “The people who are opposing the Assam accord mostly belong to the Hindu Bengali Community. Apparently there are some indigenous people belonging to the same community who are supporting it. Barak itself is a part of Assam, so we support the implementation of Clause 6.” The committee forwarded total three demands. Firstly, asking for inclusion of left out indigenous people from NRC without any condition and that they will never visit the Foreigners Tribunal. Their second demand was that implementation of clause 6 of Assam accord is the need of the hour to save the indigenous people and it should be implemented soon. The third demand was that many illegal immigrants are included in the final NRC, so they want a re-verification in Barak Valley for having a fair NRC.
