GUWAHATI: Often called the Guardians of the Sky, they take all safety skills to enable a secure air travel all-round the globe. They are the Air Traffic Controllers. October 20 is celebrated as the International Day of Air Traffic Controller and to mark the date, Airports Authority of India (AAI) commenced the occasion with tree plantation by the Air Traffic Control Officers (ATCOs) near the ATC complex at LGBI Airport Guwahati. Remarkably, Air Asia also started its new services in the north-eastern region from Agartala Airport, connecting three destinations at one go on this International ATC Day. Air Asia on Sunday connected the MBB Airport, Agartala directly with Guwahati, Imphal and Kolkata. Sanjeev Jindal, Regional Executive Director, AAI-North Eastern Region inaugurated the programme by cutting the cake in the presence of Ramesh Kumar, Airport Director, Guwahati; R.G Lama, General Manager, ATC-NER; Shyamali Haldhar, Jt. GM, ATC; Shri Prabhakar, Regional Secretary, ATC guild NER and other senior officials of AAI, stated a release. Addressing the gathering, Sanjeev Jindal said that Air Traffic Control is one among the core work of AAI where ATCOs are working against all odds and every difficult condition with zero tolerance against any error. That accounts for their dedication and passion for the work with punctuality and by practicing world class standards.
