STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: After the Centre signed an accord with the Assam government, National Democratic Front of Bodoland and its factions, various non-Bodo organizations are opposing the decision. The Adivasi Chatra Sanstha, Nath-Yogi Chatra Sanstha, Kalita Janagusthi Sanmilan, All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AAKRSU) and ex- Kamatapur Liberation Organization leaders addressed a press meet here on Saturday to oppose the newly formed area named “Bodoland Territorial Region.” The organizations state that the accord is one sided and non-Bodo residents of the region were not taken into consideration before taking the decision. Addressing the press meet at Dispur Press Club, AAKRSU adviser Hitesh Barman stated, “When the BTC accord was signed we were not taken into discussion. The non-Bodo communities living in the BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) were politically, socially and economically deprived.” “Various non-Bodo villages were included into the BTAD (Bodoland Territorial Area Districts). We have already been demanding the government to cut-off the non-Bodo villages from the BTAD. The government should have solved our problems first rather than signing a new accord. We will not consider this agreement and will keep opposing it,” he added.
