STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The All Assam Martyrs- Victims Family Council (AAMVFC) on Monday urged the government to provide jobs to the family members of the fallen soldiers. The family members appealed the government to fulfill their promises which they announced on July 2, 2016. The members stated that the government had assured to provide job opportunities to a total of 315 people in its 100 Day programme. Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Monday, AAMVFC claimed that the council had a discussion with chief minister on July 31 2019 and the finance minister on December 24 2019 regarding the issue of recruitment and opening job opportunities for the kin of the martyrs. The recruitment process was however handed over to Assam Accord Implementation Department. By following the procedure the accord implementation department appointed a total of 519 till 2002. Besides them, four people were appointed at the Water Resource Department in 2016 and one person was recruited at the Assam State Transport Corporation in 2017. A total of 310 family members are still deprived and a total of 890 families are yet to receive employment. The councils chief secretary Manik Chandra Debnath placed the demands to provide employment letters to 310 members who have applied in 21 departments of the Assam Government. Debnath also demanded seat reservation in Medical and Engineering colleges for the family members of the martyrs. The council also demanded 10% reservation in the Assam government and also financial assistance for the victims of Assam agitation.
