Staff Reporter GUWAHATI: The Communist of Party of India (CPI), Assam State Council held a gana samabesh (mass congregation) at the Rotary Chowk of Guwahati Club here against the CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and the anti-people economic policy of the Central government. Along with other top leaders of CPI, the national general secretary Comrade D. Raja participated the congregation as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering D. Raja said, “This government only knows the divide-and-rule policy. The economy of the country is in a bad shape but Modi doesnt bother about it.” Terming the budget as anti-people D. Raja alleged that the budget is not for the general people, but for capitalists like Adani and Ambani. He said that people need to think of the fact behind the turmoil disturbing the country. “Theres agitation going on around the country. People dont have money with them. The value of our money is going down. Inflation is increasing. Economy is in crisis. Farmers are committing suicide. The budget session is going on. Hence the budget is anti- people. This budget holds nothing for the poor people of the country.” Demanding release of the prisoners of anti-CAA agitation, CPI leader Munin Mahanta claimed that the NIA Act has been misused. Mahanta said, “Theres no other option other than united protest. Every organization and party irrespective of their ideology should come under one umbrella to reach the goal of cancellation of the CAA.” He said that it is not the time to think of ideological differences and that the Leftist are ready to extend their support if leadership of the AASU (All Assam Studnets Union) takes such initiative for the sake of the country. “A group is trying to divert the public by saying that All Indian parties have no contributions in the development of Assam. We need to change the government as this government is doing nothing for the sake of poor and deprived section but theyre providing compassion after compassion to the corporate and capitalist group,” he added. Over hundreds of people from different parts of the state, including Dhubri, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur participated in the programme. The meeting raised the demand for the revival of the two HPC mills in Assam and modernization of the fertilizer manufacturing unit at Namrup.
