Protests erupt outside Assam Legislative Assembly

STAFF REPORTERGUWAHATI: The budget session of Assam Legislative Assembly Budget was kick-started on Monday in Dispur. Meanwhile, All Assam ANM (Trained) Association, All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) and the North-East Minorities Students' Union (NEMSU) staged demonstrations outside the assembly with a slew of demands. Chanting slogans and holding placards, the trained ANM nurses demanded that they should be appointed by the government. Further, the body asked the government to investigate on the various scams which took place under the Assam Directorate of Char Areas Development Assam. STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: The budget session of Assam Legislative Assembly Budget was kick-started on Monday in Dispur. The administration has beefed up the security and has deployed contingents of police, CRPF and Para Military to avoid any untoward incident. Meanwhile, All Assam ANM (Trained) Association, All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) and the North-East Minorities Students Union (NEMSU) staged demonstrations outside the assembly with a slew of demands. Chanting slogans and holding placards, the trained ANM nurses demanded that they should be appointed by the government. The protestors said that the nurses working in private nursing homes and hospitals should be paid under the Labour Act and should be able to avail other facilities. They stated that the government should force the hospitals to follow the Labour Act and the training programs of nurses should be withhold as already there are numerous unemployed nurses. AAUA demanded that the vacancies in the State government should be filled and local candidates should be appointed. They body appealed for changes in the online application format so that candidates from other states cannot apply for the jobs in the state. It also demanded that the written examinations should be conducted through state based agencies and the process of getting loans by the unemployed people should be made more convenient. NEMSU members demanded the formation of a religious Minority board for the overall development of the minority community. Further, the body asked the government to investigate on the various scams which took place under the Assam Directorate of Char Areas Development Assam.
