Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board set to prepare 50 lakh COVID masks

STAFF REPORTERGUWAHATI: In a bid to tackle the COVID outbreak, the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board (AKVIB) has taken an initiative to prepare 50 lakh face masks. Talking to the media persons, AKVIB chairman Kamala Kanta Kalita announced that five lakh masks have been prepared so far and the total budget for the production of 50 lakh masks is Rs. Kalita asserted that these masks are eco friendly and are suitable for both summer and winters. The Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board has donated 2,000 masks to the Health Department. STAFF REPORTER GUWAHATI: In a bid to tackle the COVID outbreak, the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board (AKVIB) has taken an initiative to prepare 50 lakh face masks. Talking to the media persons, AKVIB chairman Kamala Kanta Kalita announced that five lakh masks have been prepared so far and the total budget for the production of 50 lakh masks is Rs. 12.50 crore. Kalita asserted that these masks are eco friendly and are suitable for both summer and winters. He claimed that the initiative will implement the local weavers. Meanwhile, various government and non-government organizations have placed orders for the masks. The State Bank of India has purchased 20,000 masks, said Kalita. The Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board has donated 2,000 masks to the Health Department. While the price of a single-layered mask has been priced at Rs. 25, the double layer will cost Rs. 35. It is to be mentioned that AKVIB has donated a one-day salary of its workers – Rs. 3,01,000 to the Assam Arogya Nidhi and the board has extended Rs. 5 lakh to the Chief Ministers Relief Fund.
