He said , “CAA will be implemented very soon. It got delayed due to Covid-19 pandemic,” while addressing a meeting with social groups in West Bengal’s Siliguri.

The CAA approved by Parliament on December 11, provides citizenship to refugees from six minority religious communities from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan, on the condition that they have lived in India for six years and entered the country by December 31, 2014.

The CAA triggered massive protest in Assam in mid-December and subsequently spread across the country. Protests were suspended due to the restrictions imposed to curb the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
